I help business owners, real estate developers, institutional lenders and entrepreneurs navigate and resolve legal matters. I often maintain long standing professional relationships with my clients, spanning many years. My practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions, closely-held and family business law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
In my real estate practice, I advise developers, landlords, institutional lenders and private parties on a full range of real estate transactions and land use concerns involving office, retail, industrial and multi-family properties.
In the area of business law, I evaluate and form non-public and family business entities designed to limit the taxation and personal liability of principals, while clearly setting out the rights and responsibilities of all owners in order to limit future conflicts.
Additionally, I collaborate with my clients to develop enforceable contracts with employees, customers, contractors, lenders or borrowers, landlords or tenants, and business sellers or buyers in a way that strengthens the relationship between parties and enhances the deal.
I actively use Alternative Dispute Resolution processes (especially Collaborative Law) with my clients to resolve a variety of business disputes. This includes the areas of closely held and family business restructurings and break ups, as well as commercial real estate conflicts. In these situations, I serve as a non-litigation legal advocate in the traditional model, Collaborative Law practitioner, neutral expert or mediator.
I bring a varied law firm background, deep network with complementary professionals and broad personal experience on a wide-range of business scenarios to clients for their business and commercial real estate projects. Over my thirty-year career, I have overseen the legal aspects of well over 500 real estate and business transactions. My legal experience is broad, having held positions as partner, of counsel and associate in law firms of all sizes.
I serve as a Senior Consultant for Continuity Family Business Consulting where I work with family owned and operated firms on governance development, succession planning and conflict management. I draw upon the first-hand knowledge of family business dynamics I gained through my long-standing role as the Operating Manager of my family’s fourth generation commercial real estate enterprise to resolve my clients’ matters effectively and efficiently.
I author and co-author articles which appear in publications such as: Massachusetts Law Review, Boston Business Journal, Massachusetts Collaborative Law Journal, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, Banker and Tradesman, New England Real Estate Journal, Northwestern Journal of International Law and Business, and Harvard Negotiation Law Review.
I am often a featured speaker at continuing legal education programs, including events sponsored by the American Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, Spanish Collaborative Law Association, Italian Collaborative Law Association, New England Corporate Counsel Association, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc., CCIM Association, Northeast Builders Association, Building Owners and Managers Association, New England School of Law, Suffolk University School of Law and Family Firm Institute.
